.chm files-program to convert to .pdf?

My friend has a laptop with Windows XP Professional. As he is very much a computer novice I sent him a .chm file to read and learn the basics, but he is unable to open it. Is there any program, preferably free, that fellow Loungers are aware of that can convert .chm files to .pdf?

    Advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks and regards,Roy

Probably nothing, I've never had the need to do more than one page. Will investigate further.
Can the .chm files be copy/pasted to a Word Document ????

Has he tried to open the file with his browser? This extension is a Compiled HTML Help File. It should be able to be opened in his browser. A Google search reveils some help.

All he should have to do is right click the .chm file, select properties, click "Unblock", OK his way out.

If you want to convert chm to pdf with table of content and bookmarks, Atop chm to pdf converter is a good choice.

You want Calibre. It converts lots of formats, including CHM to PDF, and a host of other formats including EPUB for e-readers.

    Hello tzv,

Thanks for the link but when I go to the website and choose Any file to PDF Converter and then browse to the file I want to convert and click convert nothing happens! Very frustrating.

Any ideas as to how to sort this out?

    Thanks and regards, Roy

    Hi Roderunner,

I have no problem opening .chm files, but my friend in England does. Please see my earlier posts in this thread. Also when I click on your FW Help.zip link and open it, although the list of contents is shown none of the pages open and on the right of the window it says "Navigation to the website was cancelled".

What I really need help with, for my friend's benefit, is described in post #12.

    Regards, Roy

What happened when you tried the free Calibre as a converter from .chm to .pdf? (mentioned at #9)

That works fine for me for that purpose.
