Net View command output varies WIN 7

    Using WIN 7 Home Premium

I often use net view but noticed today that not all my NAS boxes are listed. They do however show in Explorer when I click a shortcut for each I have on my desktop.

Checking across on my Net Book I see the same output.

I have seen this behaviour before.

Is it possible to rescan the network to see all boxes on it?

Does this behavior survive a reboot?

Does the Win 7 PC use sleep or hibernate?

Is this a recent issue? If it is, have you tried a system restore?

Is the Win 7 PC up-to-date with patches? Is SP-1 installed?

If the network shows up properly if the PC is powered down and back on then using Device Manager, check the Power Management tab for the NIC. Check that "Allow the computer to turn off...." is clear. Sometimes devices do not wake up properly.

Windows 7 SP1 - if you used Windows Update to install I recommend you download the complete Windows 7 SP1. Be sure to download the version that corresponds to the "bitness" of Windows 7. Also, see Steps to follow before you install SP1 & Troubleshooting SP1 installation problems.
