I have used WOT for more than a year with Firefox. I really like that it tags links in Google searches, which has almost entirely prevented me from ever encountering suspicious websites. Occasionally, I have gone to a specific website referred by someone when WOT shows its ominous red message that is site has a poor reputation. If I am pretty sure of the person who referred me, I click on the link in the message that takes you to the WOT page on that site. This gives information about who rated the site that led to the warning, usually with comments about their concern. I have generally found that only 1 or 2 people had problems with a site from a trusted source, and sometimes for reasons that don't make sense to me, so I can proceed with confidence.

I use WOT and until recently, ClearCloud DNS. This is closing down at the end of the month unfortunately, so I had to decide on another DNS server. From reading around, it seemed that OpenDNS was more geared to blocking sites that contained non family-safe material, rather than purely blocking malware sites like ClearCloud DNS does (soon to be 'did'). Is that the case?

I don't really need family-safe filters, so at present have switched to using Norton DNS. I'm not fixed in the opinion of what to stick with yet, so any opinions on DNS servers welcome. I have read that if using NIS 2011 (my current security suite), it isn't necessary to use Norton DNS but I have had it block a site nonetheless.

Hello Roderunner - I have been using this one that looks like it does a similar job but I suppose not all servers offer the filtering of sites. *Edit: Maybe it would be best to go with the more well-known ones such as Norton, Comodo, Google, OpenDNS?

Ah right. Under where it says (in the screenshot) 'Choose a free DNS Service' there's a whole lot of servers listed, only a few of which I've ever heard of. I know the ones I've arrowed in the screenshot below provide a filtering service. I'm not sure about any others.

I'll try out the utility you have linked to. Thanks.

Thanks Roderunner - I'm so used to adding images to posts using Photobucket that I didn't think to do it any other way. I wasn't sure whether to use image tags or not though. I'll use the 'upload' way next time. Perhaps try it out in the test forum.

Bruce, glad you pointed this out again. I felt it was important enough that I started a new thread with this info. It appears it was a repeat of another thread on a different article referencing the same report, but does not hurt to repeat it. Thanks again. Cheers, Ted

I use it on SeaMonkey, Firefox, and K-Meleon. It's good.
