PPT 2010: Requesting Recommendations For Books/Tutorials

I am new to PowerPoint and have struggled with the Help documentation to gain an understanding of the architecture, specifically the relationship between Slide Masters, Slides, Layouts, Shapes, and Views. I ultimately need to automate PPT from a VB app, but I do my prototyping in PPT first.

I would appreciate anyone's recommendations for getting up to speed quickly on this -- books, links, tutorials, etc. I have trolled some of the more popular sites and can't find a good overview of the above.
