Question trying to upgreade from winxp home sp2 to sp3

hello and greets to the group....i am trying to help a good bud update his pooter which has win xp home sp2 (as far as i know it is a legit install) to sp3 as he wants to use verizon wireless as there is NO other viable net options and the system requirements for verizon wireless call for sp3 to be installed. no biggie, i got he download from microsoft, and burned it onto a cd.....i took the cd and dragged and dropped sp3 to the desktop and installed it from that point.....so far so good....as the status bar showed....then for some reason, a pop up window appeared and said to inset a floppy disc in the floppy drive.....was not expecting that at all....so i am wondering how we proceed from this point.......

any and all suggestions would be appreciated and welcomed!!!

    thanks to all in advance!!!!

I've not seen that message when installing SP3. Was the complete package downloaded - Windows XP SP3?

    Mark,

    Welcome to the lounge.

Could it be that the system wants to make a Password Restore disk? Are there any messages before the request for the floppy?

Personally,I would just leave the disc in.Install the update from there.
Just a heads up.Your bud should of had SP3 installed way before now.Because of security reasons if not for nothing else.

hey gang,. sorry for the long reply.,.....been a lot going on........the short solution to the story is that the verizon broadband card was defective....the longer version of the story is that we kept getting the error message (2114 i believe) so the guy that was looking at it, has a brand new laptop with win7 in it, so be plugged the card into that and it gave the same error message.....so after getting a replacement card, he put it in the laptop and it fired right up.....so the 2nd card was plugged into the desktop with sp2 in it and it took off as well there......i passed the heads up along on updating the OS....i suspect that a new machine may be in the future......thanks to all for there kind assist!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ps- i got sp3 from here......http://www.microsoft.com/download/en...px?id=24.....i dont know if that helps but i thought i would include it!!
