IE9 accessing OWA mail - can't open XLSX attachments - must SAVE AS

When I access my employers OWA site to view email if there is an XLS attachment IE9 will open it directly. If the attachment is an XLSX file IE9 forces me to save it to my local machine before I can open it.

Is this a IE9/Office/Explorer setting I can change or is this a OWA server setting the Exchange admin must change?

If the conventions are the same, then the x at the end is for 2010 version (Office 2010 documents end in x, i.e. docx versus doc)

Correct. XLSX/DOCX are 2010 file formats. IE9/OWA will not allow opening directly. You have to save them to your desktop first.

That is the likely culprit. Now if I can find an admin in our large organization.

    Thanks
