Operation Cleanup: Complete Malware Removal Guide

    Hi all,

MakeUseOf.com has a new .pdf release you can download at no charge titled Operation Cleanup: Complete Malware Removal Guide. The guide covers many of the tips you have read here in the Lounge and a few others. What I like about the guide is the systematic steps it outlines to help users clean up after an infection.

Once you arrive on the download page, you only have to enter your email address to join MakeUseOf, and a password will be emailed for you to enter to begin the download. MakeUseOf offers a number of excellent guides to many computer topics, and there has never been any requirement to purchase anything while taking advantage of their free downloads.

Check it out. I think you will be glad you did. There site is fairly busy, so it may take a few attempts to get through.

    Deadeye,
Thanks for the link. Following the procedures outlined should remove most Malware. The only program that i use for stubborn cases that was not mentioned is Hijack This . You do have to be fairly knowledgeable to be able to interperet the log file it generates but you can also copy it and post it on this web page for decent analysis.

Your are all very welcome. I hope the systematic approach in the guide will help a number of Loungers, and it is good to keep Hijack This in mind as well.

    Lightbulb Malware Removal

Since malware is contantly changing nowadays, best to seek the assistance of an experienced, trained, certified, VOLUNTEER "Malware Removal Specialist", found on many advanced malware removal forums . The one I favor is www.geekstogo.com/forum . These Experts no longer use "HijackThis" in their initial analysis, but use "OTL" and/or "DDS", which are much more comprehensive . I feel relying on a "Complete Malware Removal Guide" is very foolish, since one misstep can render a computer inoperative .

I do not believe anyone suggested the guide as the only tool to rely upon for malware removal. Obviously, it is one of many tools at our disposal.

Your charge of "foolish" is based on a mistaken assumption. It is advisable to be careful with your words when contributing a post to a thread.

The author says the original link is incorrect in post #6. Unless you can find something poking around his site, it would only be .htm format.

The site appears to be a very useful resource for anti-malware information. The author has assembled a ton of userful tips & links.

The pdf is still available. Go to http://www.makeuseof.com/pages/downl...-removal-guide and scroll down until you see a smaller picture of the manual with the words *NEW* Operation Cleanup: Complete Malware Removal Guide above it. Right below the picture you'll see a link that says "download it now." Click on that. A box will pop up asking for a password; use the password makeuseof. You'll then be able to download the pdf version.
