    Two Office 2010 migration tools

Microsoft have released two tools to assist in migrating older versions of Office and Office addins to Office 2010. See Office environment assessment tool and Office code compatibility inspector for more information and download links.

From the same great people who gave us Core Fonts for the Web we have your linked pages. Guarenteed to look swell in a glossy fashion magazine, those pages are not designed for reading on a lowest common denominator screen display, or even a respectable but less than magnificent and mammoth screen display.

On reviewing the descriptions, it strikes me as a possibility that these tools might pick up errors on any already-set-up system, for those of us who have them, especially if we have migrated from an earlier system. Does that make sense? Are they not inspection tools, migration or no migration?

Yes, they are inspection tools. They are intended to check an Office 2007 or earlier environment for those who are planning a migration. There is nothing that would prevent anyone from using the tool. But if you've already migrated to Office 2010 that would be akin to locking the barn after the horses have escaped.

Thank you Joe. The fact that the report requires that Excel 2007 or 2010 to already be installed was what made me think it would look for errors even after the fact of installation, and one might hope that any identified errors could be corrected.
