    Outlook 2007 doesn't quit

I can close the outlook window by clicking the red X, but checking task manager, outlook.exe*32 is still running. When I installed the recent patches they wanted to reboot but the reboot stopped because Outlook was still running.

The question is, why does Outlook 2007 continue to run after closing the window.

Often it is waiting for an add-in to close. Have you added or updated any software that interfaces with Outlook (i.e. syncing with a portable device, anti-virus, etc.)?

When I used Outlook 2007, this add-in solved the problem: http://www.daveswebsite.com/software/olshutdown/

Thanks, I forgot about add-in's since I almost never install any myself. Knowing the cause is mostly what I was after.
