    Update Links (Excel 97/2000)

    Hello Folks

Is there a way to have a workbook that contains links to other workbook(s) open without having the message "The workbook you are opening contains Automatic links ... Do you want to update" pop up?

I am looking for something automatic, and the answer to the update is irrelevant. I tried Application.DisplayAlerts = False but it did not work, seems the code runs after the links are detected, and I tried the Ask For Update Automatic Links but that is an application level option, and I prefer a workbook level option.

    Any thoughts?

If you go to Tools/Options/Calculation Tab and uncheck "Update remote references" does that solve the problem?

Under Tools, Options, Edit there is an option to enable/disable the prompt. To disable the prompt uncheck Ask to update automatic links. You can set the Update Remote references (under Tools, Options, Calculate) to update or not as required without prompting.

    Hi Andrew

<<< To disable the prompt uncheck Ask to update automatic links. >>> This is an application level settings and I don't want to mess with that because the user may want to use other workbooks with links and what have you.

<<< (under Tools, Options, Calculate) >>> Now this is a workbook level setting, but it does not stick. I unchecked it and saved the workbook and then reopened the workbook and it was checked again <img src=/S/hairout.gif border=0 alt=hairout width=31 height=23> !!!

I guess my last resort is to have the code in another workbook open this one workbook with UpdateLinks = 0 . <img src=/S/surrender.gif border=0 alt=surrender width=31 height=23>

    Hi Legare

Thanks for your post. This sounds like the option I need, BUT I can't get it to stick <img src=/S/sad.gif border=0 alt=sad width=15 height=15>

I unchecked the option, and saved the workbook and then I opened the workbook again, and it was checked? <img src=/S/confused.gif border=0 alt=confused width=15 height=20>

I am at a loss here...
