    Jim, Welcome to the Lounge.

I think you are asking how to dual boot XP on a PC with Vista pre-installed. How To Geek shows the necessary steps.

    plainjim,
Hello... I would do the "Dual Boot" thing this way...

    1. Make a "Full System Image " of you OS using Windows Backup , or a better choice Macrium Reflect Free Macrium Free(Store it to an external drive if possible)

    2. Create a new partition on you Hard Drive.. Your choice of size depending on how much space you have left.

    3. Download and install this free program "EasyBCD" EasyBCD Set your OS as default, and give it a name.

    4. load your new OS disk, and re-boot.. Install the new OS into the new partition.

    5. Install EasyBCD on the new OS and add it to the Que ...with it's own name... This is not necessary (if you don't want) as you can add your new OS to the Que from your default OS.

When your finished you will be given a choice at boot time Regards Fred
