OK so you have a color chart and you ask to have it printed in Black and White. Sure the colors will have to change into the grey scale equivalent. I am not sure why you are calling this a bug.

Is there any abnormal behaviour you are noticing?

Yes, actually. If you click on Print B&W, then it should convert everything to either black or white, not grey scales. If you don't click on B&W, then it is supposed to convert to grey scales. Otherwise, there would be no function for the B&W check box.

I don't know what the cause is, but I would check for a new version of the printer driver.

    Duh <img src=/S/confused.gif border=0 alt=confused width=15 height=20>
Sorry! On re- reading my post I can see why you would think I had lost the plot. What I meant to say was that the chart is in colour as per normal (red & blue bars). I have to print it so I choose b&w on the page setup options. However when I return to my chart sheet some of the bars have turned to grey scale. So now I have some blue and the ( formerly) red bars are now greyscale. Now, surely that is not meant to happen? Supose I next want to print it in colour?

    Wow now that makes my heart skip a beat <img src=/S/heart.gif border=0 alt=heart width=15 height=15>

I guess since you are using Excel 2002 XP, and not a whole lot of people are there yet, you may have a bug exposed.

OK what happens when you refresh the chart, say recalculate it or switch to a different sheet? Do the colors return after that?
If you save the workbook what gets saved, color or gray? (Please save it under a different name)
Dose it return if you close the workbook and reopen it with out saving the workbook?

Try all of these and lets see what happens...

Hi Thanks for your reply. I have not been able to try all your suggestions because this 'phenomenon' is very erratic and does not always happen. So in the last few days it has been a relatively grey free zone. However, today I did it again by switching back and forth between print preview in colour and pp in b&w. It happened on the third switch.
I am enclosing a Print Screen of the chart just to prove I have not gone gaga!
This effect does not go away on saving and re-opening the document. Your other tests I'll try as and when.
One thing it kinda proves it's not a monitor issue as I've tried it on two different pc's now.
    Interesting though.
If it is a bug can I have it named for me?
    Cheers
    Brian

OK send me one screen shot with the colored chart? Are you using any "Funcky" colors? I guess the blue stays because it is a System color... I guess and as such it may have properties other colors don't have.

Also what kind of printer drivers are you working with? is it possible to send me the workbook and I'll try on my print driver?

I guess the last thing you can do is to talk to Microsoft.

If you go to this page:

    <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.hp.com/cposupport/swindexes/hp2000cpri18430_swen.html?Submit.x=8&Submit.y=8>http://www.hp.com/cposupport/swindexes/hp2...&Submit.y=8</A>

you may find the drivers you need to update your printer driver. Make sure you understand what features you may lose when you do this update, so be careful.

If this does not help, then I think it is safe to tell Microsoft and see what they would say...

Edited to add hyperlink - Rory.
