    Password Extensions

In Win2000 what are the extensions that password files use, i think they were .pwl files in Win98. Just i need to delete all passwords in Win2000 as another user is getting a laptop and cannot have any passwords to be retreived for confidentiality

    Re: Password Extensions

Unlike Windows 9x, Windows NT/2k has a different level of security. All passwords can be accessed through the registry settings (using Administrative Tools) and physycally are in an encrypted SAM file ( WINNTSYSTEM32CONFIG). If you try to delete this file, your Windows installation will became unusable.
If you want to remove all previous user profiles, logon as Administrator and delete all profiles you don't want using Administrative Tools.
