Average of several dates (97 SR2)

I have a list of dates (month/day only). They are formatted as dates. I want to get the average date from this range. What is the function? AVERAGE doesn't work. If all thedates are in the Month of October, the AVERAGE function returns 6/24. What am I missing?

Average works for me. I entered 9-Oct, 10-Oct, and 11-Oct in A1:A3. I entered =AVERAGE(A1:A3) in A4 and got 10-Oct. Can you reply back with the workbook attached, so that we can see what's wrong. Thanks! --Sam

You are only displaying month and day, but the data entered in the cell is month, day and year. The years go from 1993 through 2000. Click on one of the cells and look at what is displayed in the formula bar.
