Task Pane not Docking as Expected (Office XP)

All settings indicate the task pane should appear by default. When the user opens the Office XP app, he/she can see a glimpse of the task pane as it is loading and then it disappears and the blank document fills the screen. When selecting File, New the task pane appears and docks properly. Bug?? Does anyone know of a fix?

Is there a check mark at the bottom of the Task pane in the "Show at Start up" box?

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Re: Task Pane not Docking as Expected (Office XP)

Dave, I found the culprit. The two pc's with the problem have Acrobat 5.0 installed and Office XP was loaded as an upgrade. Powerpoint opens with the Task Pane, but Word and Excel do not. After the task pane loads and then disappears, the Acrobat toolbar appears and I believe that's the problem (there's no Acrobat toolbar in Powerpoint).

On my pc, I installed Office XP first and then Acrobat 5.0. The installation would not create the Acrobat toolbar (I must use File, Print, Distiller) and I do not have problems with the task panes loading.

So, it appears there's some conflict between Acrobat 5.0 and Office XP.

My users have the same problem with Acrobat 4.0 - it's probably general problem with Adobe's AutoExec.AddOurToolbar macro.

Thanks for your input. I posted the problem on the Adobe user to user forum. Adobe Customer Service tells me there has been no testing of Acrobat with Office XP - it's "too new" - but says Adobe will read the post. Let's hope there's a patch soon.

I have Acrobat 5.0, but I have Windows 2000, Office 2002 Pro and do not have this problem. But I installed Office 2002 (clean upgrade) before Acrobat 5.0.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Re: Task Pane not Docking as Expected (Office XP)

Dave, Office XP Pro was installed on a new pc with Windows 2000. Acrobat 5.0 was installed after. I can have the task panes startup as default OR I can have the Acrobat toolbar. I can't have both. I tested it both ways. The presence of the PDF toolbar (the template is installed in start) does not allow the task panes to load. Are you getting the task panes to dock WITH the PDF template in start? Please tell me what you did so I can duplicate it.

I have not added the Acrobat toolbar to Word. My oversite of your problem.
