Utility to inform of the number of Outlook 2010 messages in InBox and Sent

Does anyone know of a utility which would be able to pull out from a running Outlook 2010 the number of message in the Sent queue and in the InBox of its PST file?

I would like to back up the PST (yes, using VSS!) when there is some form of change to these numbers...

What is the desktop OS? Is this a single install or for multiple users? Is Exchange involved?

It happens to be a home installation of Windows 7 Professional 64-bit for a single user, no Exchange!

VBScript and GetObject, perhaps? This assumes that the user running the script has the right to touch the running Outlook process and that the necessary ActiveX controls are available...

If you are looking for something that notifies you as the desktop user you can use a rule for inbox items.

There are desktop gadgets available for un-read email (see gallery.live.com). Perhaps, you could modify the javascript to display sent item counts too.
