    ':'

    I get the following error after installing Windows2000

    Cannot find the file ':' (or one of its components). Make sure the path and filename are correct and that all required libraries are available

    Then it says the same message but to do with registry settings for ':'

    Please more details: when did you get this message? On the first boot? Or after you login? Was it fresh installation or upgrade from other Windows OS?
    If it's fresh installation and you didn't use it yet, reformat hard drive and start from scratches to avoid any complications. If bug persists, check your installation CD (it can be physically damaged).

    Yes it was a fresh installation and the error message comes up when it loads the desktop after i have logged into Novell. If you click on the message twice it goes away, but was just wondering what the message was and if there was a way to get rid of it

    HI

    Just a thought : open Regedit and check at the very top, next to the * (null file) entry in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT, for the colon. If there, highlight and Export it, then Delete it. If you get problems, you can always re-incarnate it with Import.

    Administrative Tools -> Computer Management
    In the Tree pane:
    System Tools | System Information | Software Environment | Startup Programs

    Anything in there look odd?
