    Windows 8 developer preview

The web site is live to download the new developer preview. See Windows Dev Center.

    forgot to note:

This release is NOT feature complete. This release should NOT be depended on for production work.

    Hi Ted,

Here's a direct link to the downloads page if that is any help.

I have been there numerous times and keep getting the IE cannot display this page message. Oh well, probably not enough time to install it anyway. If I ever get it, the suggestion is to install in a virtual environment. Either that or on it's own HD.

This is what I am getting:

    ConnectionProblem.jpg

I continue to get the same error even when I sign in using my Live ID credentials.

I suspect this is because I do not have an MSDN subscription. If so I will not be able to download this file. I would think this info should have be included on the download page if this is the case.

Ted, while you wait for the download server, it might pay to install Virtualbox if you don't already have it. Then you can install this pre-Beta into that and muck about to your heart's content without risk to your native Windows 7.

I'm quite interested in the rumours of Microsoft Security Essentials being bundled with the OS. Upsides and downsides to that, especially here in the EU where MS got severely canned for anti-competitive behaviour with IE.

I already have the Virtual Box downloaded, but not installed yet. I was going to use it for a Mint OS, but never got to that. If I do get Win 8, I will make the time. Now it's just getting the iso file.

Well, I had to once again install Chrome to allow the download. It is downloading now. As Joe states, it is very slow.

If you are still having download problems you can check a site such as Betanew file forum. I'm sure there are many others too.

It appears the iso file download will be completed in about another half hour (total download almost 3 hours, whew)

Just out of interest, what speed is it downloading at? Over here in the UK I'm currently downloading the package with the developer tools at a steady 1.5MB/s which is about the max my telephone line supports.

I downloaded the preview 64 Bit package without the developer tools. I did not check the actual speed, sorry. My download did finish so that tomorrow I should be able to play with virtual box and Win 8.
