    Try CamStudio: http://camstudio.org/
Often, it depends on how the streaming is done. I have noticed that for some streaming video all I get is a black box (though that was years ago). I once (years ago) read about the reason for that, seem to recall something about a video layer that isn't part of the typical desktop output.

I use Youtube Downloader for Youtube videos.
I don't use it very often but it works pretty good.

This gives a number of choices and the cons and pros as well. I've not investigated them so cannot give a recommendation.

Another, often overlooked way to get streaming video off the internet, is to pluck them from your brouser's cache.

One would have to turn off Hidden Files and Folders in Windows Explorer &
use a media player that can handle playback, like Video Lan Player (VLC)

Not all content will work, Silverlight generated content for instance, will not.

In XP I get them out of the temp folder. If they are FLV files I either use VLC to view them or convert them using Format Factory.

In W7 they seem to put them in different places in the temp folder..
I figured out that I can use Ccleaner and run Analyze and then right click on the file in the temp folder where it's located and copy and paste it to where I want to save it for later use. Using Ccleaner is much simpler then it seems to get them.

You just have to remember in your browser to not have it clean the cache when exiting the browser or leave the browser open until you get the video you want.

My favorite is Debut Video Capture, its excellent to record streaming video and free. You can also find other alternative like Jing, Camstudio, Krut, ScreenVirtuoso and many more. These application all good one. Here you find reviews of these software.
