    Windows 7 freezes

I have a persistent frustrating problem. For months now, 2 or 3 times a day my dell 1764 freezes for 1-2 minutes with the hard drive light on solid. Hasn't got worse or better. Laptop responds to nothing so I can't even use task manager to see what's going on. Then it continues perfectly. At a loss to know what to do. Any clues would be great.

    TIA Jon

Are you doing anything that is repeatable to cause the freeze?

Have you added or changed any hardware recently?

Have you added or changed any software recently?

Do you have Windows 7 SP-1 installed?

    Are you device drivers up-to-date?

Try having Task Manager running so you might see what process might be the culprit.

further to Joe's suggestions - have you tried disabling Virus Scan software as this can often create the problem? Paul

Other potential os related issues may be indexing and System Restore. They can be tweaked and trimmed back a bit if need.
