    Turning off automatic hyperlinks (2000)

How do I stop Excel from automatically converting internet URLs and email addresses into hyper links?
In Word, its in Tools, Autocorrect, Autoformat, but Excel doesn't have that option.

one way to prevent it as showing up as a hyperlink, is simply to press the space bar once and then type in the url.

    Hi.
I'm afraid I don't know of an automatic way of stopping it from doing the conversion (though you can use code to unconvert a whole list after entering it). However you can either prefix the address with an apostrophe or simply hit Ctrl+Z after it converts it into a hyperlink.
    Hope that helps.

    Hi Andrew,
As far as I know, all egghead's suggestion does is turn off the actual formatting of the hyperlink - the text itself is still converted into a hyperlink, it's just not turned blue and underlined.

Further to that, you can either add an autocorrect entry to change www to 'www or use a simple macro to remove them (probably easier than the other methods):
    activesheet.hyperlinks.delete
    or
    selection.hyperlinks.delete
if you have other hyperlinks on the sheet that you want to keep.
    HTH.

    Rory,

You could be right - I never tried it. I just assumed and I know one should never assume anything..

I know it is not automatic as such, but the right click and remove hyperlink should work. Perhaps a worksheet change event could do the same automatically.
