Image backup tip (if system can't find your image)

I've seen lots of posts about this (in forums that I'm not a member of).

People make a system repair CD and an image backup to a USB drive, then when they need it, they boot from the repair disk, try to follow the Microsoft instructions, and get an error message saying that it couldn't find any system images. Mostly people try to help by posting slightly-reworded versions of the Microsoft instructions, which also won't work. I haven't seen any actual useful replies anywhere.

The trick that makes it work on my rig is to plug my shiny new usb 3 drive into a usb 2 (TWO) port on my computer, not the usb 3 port I used when taking the backup.

    Hi Lord Cobol,

Many members recommend 2 apps that do the backups, Macrium free & Acronis paid. I prefer the latter.

Thanks for the advice. It's always welcome.
Are you working from an X58 board?
They tend to not have the best USB 3 support to begin with.

I actually use 3 apps, Macrium Pro ver. 5.0, Easeus Free ver. 3.0, and the native one with W7 Pro. I keep 3 weeks worth of backups from each app on 3 different drive the W7 is on an external drive, The EaseUs Free is on a internal drive, The Macrium Pro is on a different internal Drive, I have 4 internal drives. For Backups I love redundancy
My W7 backup is a full daily scheduled backup. The other 2 are manual backups done Wednesday of every week
