    Volume Shadow Service keeps stopping

I couldn't do a system restore or an image backup for some time. Did some digging, and found that the problem was VSS. I find it stopped most of the time. It is set for automatic. I manually restart it and check it in a few hours and it is stopped again. I can't seem to figure out why this is happening. When I turn it on I get good backups. Win 7 home premium 64bit. Any help appreciated.

Is there anything useful in the System Event Log? That said, VSS is notoriously flaky and badly-documented...

Some antivirus programs have been known to effect the running of VSS.

Have a look at the results from a Google search for vss 8194. As Clint says, there are comments there about AntiVirus programs affecting VSS.
