What's a good substitute for Adobe Flash Player 11?

Hi,

I have been using Adobe Flash Player 11, but recently everytime I go on the Internet I get an Adobe pop-up asking whether I want to continue. Unless I answer Yes or No, I can't do; the computer is frozen in time. Can someone recommend a suitable substitute for Adobe Flash Player 11?

AFAIK, if you want to watch Flash content you need Adobe Flash Player.
I'd try uninstalling it with REVO or running CCleaner afterward, download a fresh copy and reinstalling.

If you need Flash Player capabilities you're stuck with Flash. Have you tried closing your browser and uninstalling Flash?

Could you capture the question in the dialog more specifically? You may be prompted about a variety of issues, such as a Flash-based site using local storage or watching you through your webcam.

Does it matter what page you start up to or what site you visit? For example, if all browser windows are closed and you click a link to a site that doesn't use Flash, do you still get the message? That would be odd.

If you just need/want to play .swf files outside of the browser you can use irfanview with plugins, or VLC media player.

I re-downloaded Adobe Flash Player 11 again, and I am having the same pop-up problem. If I click Allow, the pop-up keeps coming back. If I click Don't Allow, it goes away. But the pop-up still appears everytime I go to a new web page. See attachments for a picture of the pop-up. I did not have this problem in the past. It started about a week or so ago. Could it be a settings problem? If so, how do I correct it?

Try clicking the box that says "Do not show me the warning for this program again" then click Allow.

Have you tried going to Tools-> Manage add ons and edit the permissions to automatically allow Flash for all sites?

Thanks RetiredGeek and ruirib. I followed both of your suggestions and they seem to have cleared up the problem of Flash Player pop-ups. I have visited multiple sites since initiating the changes you suggested, and so far so good: not even one pop-up.

What you have is an Internet Explorer 9 Protected Mode Security issue. Flash Player cannot be protected by this IE9 sandbox scheme. So you get the dialog. To end it forever, you only need to check the little checkbox which says "Do not show me this warning for this program again", and the problem will go away. Protected Mode can sometimes act like an over-aggressive firewall -- it pops up meaningless alerts and asks you to Allow or Disallow without explaining what has triggered the alert. Kind of like the Windows 7 UAC alerts. You need to learn how to dismiss these annoyances efficiently if you want to have a better Windows 7 user experience.

You may run into this issue with other plug-ins, and the only sure-fire way to end the pop-ups is to do as I suggest -- just make sure the program or plug-in is one you recognize, and not something you did not expect to fire up at that web site.

Tried that one. Not much use with embedded videos at web sites. Also doesn't play streaming videos in many cases.
