Intel Active Monitor - crashed system

I foolishly downloaded (was referenced in the Windows Secrets Newsletter Oct issue #309) and launched the Intel Active Monitor ultility/application (monitors heat/temperature of cpu, etc) on my desktop computer. Upon launch, the application crashed the system and it will not boot. Incidentially, the fans on the computer are now runnng a much higher speeds. When I try to reboot the system there is no response from the sytem (just the fan(s) starting and then gradually increasing in speed). The CD drive does bling initially. The sytem OS is Vista and the system is a Dell 400 series.
Did I fry the bios in some way and/or is there a way I can recover my system? Help.... Thx!

Have you tried booting into safe mode?

The system doesn't get to a boot stage. The "on" light activates on the machine, the dc and dvd lights blink and go out, the keyboard does not respond/light at all; and then the system fans operate and some level of accelerated, excessive speed.

My thanks for your responses. In my panic I didn't do the obvious; unplug the power to reset the system. All is back and well. Thanks again.
