.WMV at the bottom of a barrel

This problem only started about a month ago, but is very annoying. When playing a sound bite or looking at a .wmv, I get what sounds like double audio, one slightly delayed from the other, creating an echo effect that makes understanding difficult. I changed the name of the folder with the .wmv driver, hoping it would reinstall the driver, but no change.
    I am running Win 7, 64-bit Home, on a Lenovo 7723.

Are you using any 3rd party Codecs, like the KLite Codec pack?
If not, that may straighten out your Media Player. I use them, install them for all my customers and keep them updated monthly.

They make it unnecessary to have a long list of "Players" on your PC.

You could also try VLC and make it your default video and music player. It handles any media type you can throw at it with the exception of Blu Ray without the need to constantly update Codecs.

I will use two other players along with Media player; WinAmp exclusively for music, and VLC exclusively for video.
