False Internet Has Stopped Working Message

My OS is Win 7 Pro 32 bit with SP1 and all updates installed, and my only browser is IE9.

It doesn't happen every time, but several times a day when I open Internet Explorer I get the "Internet Explorer has stopped working ....." message, but if I click cancel Internet Explorer carries on working as normal.

    Can anyone explain this?

    Thanks and regards,Roy

Hi Roy, I always thought IE meant Intermittent Errors. I use IE9 very little and still get errors, my fav. is FF which has its own minor glitches but have learned to live with them. Other members as you know, use Chrome, Safari and Opera to name a few, I personally don't like them. Why not try another browser.

Most likely, there is some issue on the web page with Javascript or one of your IE addons. IE is often able to recover the page. When these errors appear to be transient is also could be a transmission issue where something was lost between the web server & your PC.

I know of three causes for the vast majority of such problems:
    1. You might have incompatible add-ons:
Go to Start | All Programs | Accessories | System Tools
and click Internet Explorer (No Add-ons).
    2. Tools | Internet Options | Advanced
Scroll to the bottom and click Reset Internet Explorer Settings. Read this
    article first:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737
Note that the Reset IE Settings button will delete AutoComplete data (such
as passwords.) Do you have those backed up?
    You can run this,Free program;https://malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free
Unexplained computer behavior may be caused by deceptive software;http://support.microsoft.com/kb/827315

Thanks to everyone who replied. I will try disabling addons one by one to see if I can identify the cause. (I don't want to reset IE settings and already run the malawarebytes free scanner on a regular basis).

    Best regards,Roy
