Installing Office 2K & XP on WinXP

I'm not exactly sure where to post this but I'll try here. I currently use Windows 2000 and Office 2000. I have both of my upgrades to XP Pro and Office XP but I'm trying to show some restraint until the applications I use (like Acrobat 5) are able to run in the upgraded Windows and Office environments.

That said, I'm wondering if it's possible to install the two different versions of Office on the same OS (XP)? Like maybe in separate user accounts? Are user accounts much different in WinXP than 2000? I thought I read somewhere that they had different functionality.

If anyone can confirm that or has a suggestion as to how I might run Office 2000 (for productivity) and Office XP (to learn the new suite) on Windows XP, I'd really appreciate it.

    Thanks!

acrobat5 works in both - print to distiller rather than use any macros though.

on the the real question <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15> yes, you can have two (or more) versions of everything but outlook. just install the second version in a different directory. No need to use different logons either.

One thing to note, the last version is the default one and it's recommended you always install them oldest to newest.

Also, a clean install of windows xp is the most stable. But for getting used to both programs, it should be ok. I would recommend reformatting and starting clean when you decide to give up office 2000 completely.

Thanks for the reply, Mary. The Adobe forums are very confusing on the issue of compatibility. While I know PDFMaker doesn't work in either XP, there's some debate about whether Distiller works in Windows XP as well.

    Thanks for the installation advice!

    Hi
If you can't get the PDF maker side of Adobe Acrobat to work yet, there is a work-round. (Adobe Acro 5 reader works fine in XP). Visit my web site, click the Index button and then either the green or red flashing light at 'PDF Files'.

The technique is to produce PostScript output, then convert it on-line to PDF, or, for heavy or private use, get the software (free) to do it on your own system.

clean installs have always worked for me. my last install was an upgrade (from 120 day trial to RTM). That one gave me fits with a few things that needed tweaked to work - including adobe products.
