outbak.dll add-in error (O2000)

I have the problem described in the following MS article
None of the solutions seem to work, not least because:
I can't find 'Outlook Sync'
My registry doesn't have the SBCM.Addin1 key mentioned in the article
Can anyone help?

deleting extend.dat doesn't help? that has always worked in every case where addins were causing problems.

outbak is actually associated with a different addin (pst backup), but the steps needs to resolve as the same as with the SBCM - uncheck the addin in com addins and delete extend.dat

deleting extend.dat didn't improve anything -- so I deleted the add-in in the registry and the problem seems to have gone away - hope I didn't do any damage by this regisrty deletion... Grateful for your thoughts on this - I did backup the registry.
