W7 locks up while shutting down

Hi, When I shut down my computer, it locks ups with the following message: "Operations are in progress. Please wait. The machine will be turned off automatically after the operations are complete." I have W7 Home Premium with Comodo Firewall and MS Security Essentials. Everything is up to date (as far as I know). How do I find out what is causing this? Thanks, Paul

    Hi Paul,
Welcome to the Lounge... For a first try bring up "Task Manager" ( "right click" on Task Bar bottom of your screen) and see what's running before you shut down.. There are other ways ... but this is the simplest of them Regards Fred

I already tried that. Tried Process Explorer as well but didn't recognize anything as an obvious culprit. I also tried finding the right log file...unsuccessfully...as I'm not sure where to look. I have to hold the power button down to get the computer to shut down.

If you are using Acronis TI see Acronis slow Windows 7 shutdown.

For the quickest shutdown with XP, Vista or Win-7 (also works with Win-8)
you can use the same Quick Shutdown shortcut that many of us have used for many years.

    %windir%\System32\shutdown.exe -s -t 00 -f

Just copy that red-line and paste it into a new desktop Shortcut.

I put mine right above the START button, for continuity.

It will shutdown even the most obstinate programs.
My average shutdown time is between 5 and 8 sec's.

Comodo? Why? The windows firewall works great.
Acronis? Why would that need to be running all the time?
It sounds like you've created a quagmire for yourself. Eh?

    Good Luck,
