    Change default Word Processer

The default is now Notepad, I want to change to Word. I'm using Office XP Professional SP3, and Word 2002. Since it's an older version searching with Google proved fruitless.

I require assistance making the change and will appreciate all help. Default programs do not list my application.

It may depend on your operating system but I think this will work. Please let me know.

Under the Start menu select Run and copy and paste the next line into the box, then press Enter.

    winword.exe /r

The space between exe and /r is required.

    Gloria,

When you say Default do you mean the program that loads when you double click on a .doc file in Windows Explorer?
If so you need to change the file association for the .doc file type.
This can be done via Windows Explorer. The link refers to Win XP for Windows 7 use this one.

Thanks Charles, I was unable to use the copy and paste on the Run window. I was able to type it in exactly as you said. After I hit enter I saw the message that it was configuring my Word program, then it went away.

Just one more question. How can I determine if Word is now the default processer and not notepad?

Thanks to the post by Charles Kenyon, this may have been taken care of. I opened a .doc file and it opened in Word. I hope that it proves that the default pocessor is now Word.

For your information, my OS is Windows 7 64-bit.
