Excel/Word/Outlook Automation Problems (Office 2000)

Hi!

Here's what I'm trying to do. I've got a button on an Excel worksheet that copies a range from the activesheet, pastes it into a word document and adds it as an attachment in an email. I've tried using the Excel file on different terminals, each running on either NT or Windows 2000 but all have got Office 2000 installed. Everything works fine except for two of the computers.

On one, the code fails at the line

Set wrdApp = New Word.Application

with the error

Run-time error '-2147417846 (8001010a)' Automation Error, The message filter indicated that the application is busy'

On the other computer, the program fails when I try to create a mail item with

Set MailOutlook = AppOutLook.CreateItem(olMailItem)

with the error message

Run-time error '-2113732605 (82030003)' Internal Application Error

This seemed to worked when I ran the program with MS Outlook open. I didn't have to do this with any of the other computers.

Again, all computers have Office 2000 installed and I've checked the reference library as well.

I'm not doing anything difficult but this has got me stumped for ages.

Any help appreciated.

I didn't test the first one, but you could search for those phrases at Microsoft.

On Outlook, mine also bombs if the program is not running. I use the Corporate Workgroup configuration, and I have multiple profiles, among which I choose at start-up. Does the user with the problem also have this configuration? Do the users with no problem have only a single, automatically started profile? That would be a strong indicator.

This workaround might be annoying, but it works from Word 2000 with Outlook 2000 closed:

Sub newMailItem()
Dim olApp As New Outlook.Application, olNameSpace As Outlook.NameSpace
Set olApp = CreateObject("Outlook.Application")
Set olNameSpace = olApp.GetNamespace("MAPI")
olNameSpace.Logon , , True, False
Dim myItem As MailItem
Set myItem = olApp.CreateItem(olMailItem)
myItem.Display
End Sub

Hope this helps!

Hi Jefferson,

I just noticed that the reply that I sent to this post a while back didn't get through. Anyway, I tried your workaround for MS Outlook and ... Magic! Thanks. I still can't fix the problem with Word though or find anything on Microsoft about it. Please let me know if you have any ideas.

Thanks again for your help.
