    File Names with Asian Characters

Somehow, many of our files (gif & jpg) have been renamed with Asian characters or in some cases, just rectangles. The workstation that appears to be the source of the problem is using Windows 7, but most of the files in question are on our server running Windows Server 2003. Does anyone know how this happened or what we can do to resolve the problem?

I just found out that the files in question are thumbnail images for Revit, so it may not be a Windows issue.

Just curious..... have you tried to 'Rename' any of those files, using standard characters?

Perhaps someone changed the code page, and thus the old characters are rendered via the new code page. (The computer stores everything, even text strings, as binary numbers. The code page helps the computer to translate those binary numbers that are part of a string into the characters to display.)

I have an entire directory of files with Chinese characters in their name, but that is because they came from a Chinese camera.
