Just as the article linked in this article which claimed Chrome and IE more secure than FF you have to take everything at face value. I do not believe or disbelieve anything I read in magazines. That's why I attempt to look at various sources for similar info. Personally I use IE 9 as my default browser with Chrome as a back up. I uninstalled FF just prior to v 3.6 (seems like it was just a few days ago as versions are changing so fast I can't keep up) as I was unhappy with it's performance ON MY SYSTEM. Others have different views than I because their systems are different than mine.

Perhaps Google is trying to smash FF, who really knows for sure. We will all continue to use what feels comfortable for us. I do not rely on any one app, be it browser or AV/AM app or Firewall, to make my system secure. I use a multi-layered approach as most here in the Lounge do. I have also read in the past how much better FF is than the others, but you know, it seems Mozilla had paid for that research.

It seems that any app can pay someone to say it is the best (and most often do). The discussion on which is best has been going on for a long time, and will contiue for a much longer time.

Very true. At present, I'm testing other browsers, and have still to find one I like. If FF goes belly up, I'll probably just use IE again.

Hi RG & Ted,

I've been looking in 'Gizmo's' best browser site. It shows 3 main headings for them, with more emphasis on 'Mega Browsers'. Surely if a pc has good security installed, a less secure one would suffice. Gizmo.

I think that's right. A browser doesn't usually work in isolation on a Windows OS. Browsing safety is ensured by the overall security measures that surround it. These could be many and various and working together, keep a person safe no matter what browser is used. But still, not everyone who uses computers has good security measures installed, so perhaps for those people, browser security in itself does become a more important factor.

Personally, I think security depends more on how tight the screw behind the keyboard is vs which browser you use.

Sometimes my screw gets pretty loose, and the threads are getting a little stripped from tightening. Oh well!

I like FF, and hate google with a passion, as much as I hate microsoft; wish I could learn to use an alternate to ms,. Security is my #1 concern, and ease of use. A geek I'll never be.
