    find replace (with text found)

I would like to add tags to text or words in italic, so it can be recognized as italic text (in txt format) when imported into a dtp package.
The word Italic should change to <I>Italic</I>.

I use Word 2010, control H, find nothing, replace with <I>^&</I>. Where ^& is a variable for 'text found'.

However, after replacing, the first tag is placed after the 'text found' instead of before it: text found<I></I>.

It allways worked fine in earlier Word versions, so am I doing something wrong or is it a Word 2010 'feature'?

It works as expected in my version of Word 2010 so there must be something else happening on your machine.

What about changing the italic text to replace with a character style which is italic (eg Emphasis). Your DTP package might be able to import that information better.

Thank you for answering. A character style may be the solution. I do like to import text in txt-format however.

Your replace may not be working because track changes is on. Turn it off, and you should get what you want.

    Yes, it works. Thank you.
Can you explain why or how "track changes" influences a find/replace action?

This problem has been with us since W2002, perhaps before that. I've never figured out why it happens.
