    .dat attachments (2000)

When I send an email message with a Word document as an attached file the receiver gets a .dat file and cannot open the .doc file.
I believe if I change the mail format to plain text this will eliminate the .dat file but then I also lose the capability to format my messages.
Is there a workaround this problem.
    Thanks for your help.

if the user is getting dat's they can't see the formating anyway - so it's a waste of your time. since only other outlook users can see the formatting available in RTF format - switch to html if you instist on using formatting.

you can select the format on the fly for those messages that require formatting. most do not.
