Question IE9 on host Win7 Pro, and IE7 on XP Mode VM?

Our call center uses IE7 as the corp. web-app they use with it hasn't been upgraded for IE8 or IE9. We'd like to move them to Win7, but not go through the hassle of getting IE7 on it. I'm trying to figure out if we might have a viable alternative by putting IE7 in XP Mode VM and then using IE9 on the host for everything else.

Anyone ahve comments or experience with this?

IE 9 can work on IE 7 mode, you just need to change that in the Developer Tools, which you can bring up by pressing F12. Other than that, the VM would be another viable option.

I was told that IE7 mode within IE9 still doesn't work as the call center folks want; good idea, though.

My experience with the different modes has been pretty good, I have managed to sort out a few issues for older IE versions in certain websites, by using IE 9 with the different modes, without needing to resort to actually having the different versions installed.

Worth a shot; I'll bring it up to my supervisor. As an option, would still like to know if you can run IE as I describe in the O.P., or even run IE7 ONLY and do so from the XP Mode VM.

You can. XP SP3 comes with IE 6, you just need to download IE 7.
