    Sandboxie

I'm thinking of getting the trial version of Sandboxie but on their site it doesn't state how long the trial period is...

    Anyone know??

The trial lasts for 30 days. After the trial ends a box comes up that shows the following for 5 seconds:

You can continue for personal use as long as you wish.

    Thanks Ted...

    I assume you use it...

What do you think of it?

    Any problems?

I only use it for surfing unknown sites. That's it. With my up to date Images I feel pretty safe otherwise. You create Images much more often than I do so I would think you are even in better shape. I almost think it is getting to be an obsolete app. (I seldom use it at this time)

Ted, I was thinking of using for the very reason you do...

Using the web is always an unknown so I think it would be safer using Sandboxie to surf.

Even safe sites can give you problems.

I find that surfing is slightly slower when opening sites through Sandboxie. The newer browsers start out very secure on their own so I am using it much less than I used to.

I used it this morning and I didn't notice any performance hit...

But, maybe I will after I get used to it..

I know the newer browsers are more secure...

I'm just using it as another layer...

    Banyarola:
I would be interested in hearing back in a while how you found your Sandboxie experience to be
    vis a vis performance etc.
I have been thinking of using it myself.
    Best,
    Dick

Dick, so far I haven't noticed any thing...
I am just using it for browsing and the pages seem to load fast enough.

Why don't you d/l it and give it a try...

I use it ALL the time, can't think of any reason not to. Never noticed any peerformance improvement on the very few occasions I've not been using it. Anything you want to keep, downloaded files etc. are recovered immediately, everything else is flushed down the proverbial drain.

Like I said before, I'm using it mostly for internet browsing...

Sometimes I think Internet Explorer loads a little more slowly but it's fine with me.

I've used it religiously for years. You never know when a drive-by will occur (which has me when I was going to mediamilitia to download some clipart graphics). I actually use it inside and XP VM so, in essence, I'm double Sandbox. Though there is no such thing as perfect protection, I thing this techniques comes quite close to being just that. Every so often (usually on Patch Tuesdays) I completely hose my VM to go back to the most current Snapshot and then do the OS updates and save the snapshot. Everytime a major program update (like for Sandboxie for instance) I do the same. I highly recommend SBIE. It even works for 64-bit OSs now but, in my opinion, it better protects XP OS.

Yes lyle, I have been using it mostly for IE and like it...

Like you say, it works fine on 64 bit.

I use it mostly when doing searches because you never know where you're gonna end up.

I've been using Sandboxie since 2006. Just second nature to do all browsing under its protection now. I find it doesn't delay browsing speed but can delay browser start-up time. A small price to pay though.
