    I hear a voice

I hear a voice, and it's driving me crazy. No, not that kind of crazy and the voice is presumably state-of-the-art computer-generated, but when I try to use IE I get a lecture from a 'male' voice on how to clear the cache and so on at length. And yes, it is driving me crazy in the relevant sense of the word, and it's more than enough to make me use a different browser.

What did I do to deserve this? (Sorry I asked.) Is anyone else getting the same thing? Is there a way to get rid of it?

Roderunner is on the track, all right, and I should have thought of that to begin with. Regrettably, however, there are separate Accessibility Options for each of Windows 7, Office 2010, and IE9, all of which I have. It is only on IE9 that I am getting it, and it is a male voice, which is presumably not 'Microsoft Anna', it is the same song and dance every time I open it (just the past two days on only one computer, and for all I know Update Tuesday changed something).

It is a giant pain to hunt for it compared to putting the speakers on 'mute' or switching browsers. I'll find it eventually, but it is a giant nuisance and a drain on (my) limited resources.

As for what else is going on, the television is giving voice descriptions of the action on an number of channels in addition to those dedicated to it, so it looks like I have pushed the wrong button there as well.

I am beginning to feel like Charlie Chaplin in Modern Times if my recollection of what that was about is correct.

I, personally, find that remark offensive.

I was not in the least offended by it, but that probably has much to do with generations. If anything, I was curious to see if there would be a 'political' reaction to my reference to Modern Times.

I think we are all allowed our occasional eccentricities or misjudgements, but waging battles over them in the Lounge is forbidden.

I meant no offense, just to instill a little levity, but have removed the post.

Are we having a battle? You could have fooled me, I thought it was allowed to express one's opinion, especially here in this lounge. If I'm mistaken please forgive me.

Back to the problem in hand:

A quick Google on this problem suggests an interaction with the Google Toolbar.

Disable the toolbar and see if it makes a difference. This thread over in the Google support forums describes the issue.

Thank you very much to Tinto Tech for a terrific-looking link. I haven't gone through that very substantial thread step-by-step but am about to do so, but it is refreshing to have a problem that has been so well documented by so many. I was indeed making extensive changes to that computer to have my Gmail account available in Outlook (and Outlook data on a different partition), so it looks like you have hit the nail on the head. Even the description of the content of the voice message matches my problem. I'll let you know when I have progress to report.

    Solved

Disabling the Google toolbar did it.

There was a real tree of links and thinks (and caches and cookies) to explore from the link you provided, but the crucial part for anyone with the problem is that it is a now-established Google problem that they promised a few days ago to have fixed within a few weeks.

It's interesting that I have only encountered it on one computer of five that I at least occasionally use for browsing, but it is quite startling if you weren't expecting it, and not a very pleasant voice.

Thanks again to everyone who contributed to finding the solution to a very real problem.
