    2010 Deleting Shapes

When creating a tutorial I insert a numbered circular callout on a screen clip containg a number relating to the explanatory text. I do NOT group it. After saving this document, I CANNOT delete the inserted shape, ungroup is greyed out as I did not group it.
How can I get rid or change ths unwanted shape.
    Suggestions welcome please.

In Word 2010's Home ribbon, Editing pane, use the "Select" pulldown for various options. The Select tool lets you select an object with the cursor. The Selection and Visibility panel is handy because it lists all objects and allows you to select any of them. You can also name them, reorder them, change visibility, etc.

Tried that - items greyed out, will not select an object, but thanks for reply.

You normally need to click the border of the shape to select the shape rather than select the contents of it.

If you can't select it without the underlying image then it may be inside a drawing canvas and requires a double click to start editing the contents of that canvas.

I have just encountered the same problem and was wondering if you had had success in finding the solution?

Can you post a sample document with the mystery object in it?
