11.1V vs 10.8V battery for laptop

I'm ordering a battery for a client's laptop - a Gateway M-Series 6862 - and I have found a great deal on one from an online supplier. The trouble is, the original battery (the one being replaced) is an 11.1V battery, and the new battery has 10.8V. Will the voltage numbers matter, and if so, would I need to order a different battery?

Some electronic devices (chips, etc) can get very flacky when voltages start changing. I would be leary of installing a battery of the incorrect specified voltage. I worked for many years in the aerospace (electronics) field and power supply voltage problems caused some of the wierdest and most difficult problems to solve. Stick with the specified voltage. Saving money doesn't really when it does not work right.

The biggest issue may be the charger in the laptop. If the charger doesn't like the new battery.....

You'll need to match it up as closely as possible, preferably with that which the manufacture has specifically designated as the laptop's replacement.

Thanks all for the quick and helpful replies! Yep, I decided to take everyone's advice here, and match the original battery exactly. Better safe than sorry, you know. I contacted the seller who had the other battery I wanted, and he did in fact have one with the correct voltage, so I ordered that instead, at a great price too!
