Standby v turn monitor off via Power Options

What saves more: turning monitor off for, say, hour, or turning on Standby?

    Thank you

Why would you turn the monitor off for 1/2 hour, lunch??? I would think there would not be much of a difference for that time frame. If we were talking all night, then turning off, but 1/2 hour???

Turning off your monitor, if you absolutely MUST, won't screw up your PC. Using Standby or Hibernate either one, can do that.

Modern monitors don't draw enough power to even worry about. So why are you?
Turning any monitor on and off will fry it much quicker than just leaving it on till you're done with the computer, then turn them both off.

Experience is truly the best teacher.

    To add to DrWho's point:

Most modern monitors automatically go into Standby Mode when the video input is not present. In this mode they are still "on" but draw very little power. So if the OP puts his computer into a Standby mode and configures it to turn off the video output, his monitor will go into Standby mode until he takes the computer out of Standby mode.

I do this with both of my systems. I rarely turn the monitor off with the power switch.
