Outlook Express 6 - Undeliverable mail messages

My desktop is running XP Media Center Edition, SP3, OE 6, ZoneAlarm, MSE. I have recently started getting a bunch of messages saying mail is undeliverable to people that I didn't send mail to. I have scanned with MSE, MS Malicious Software Removal Tool & MS Safety Scanner with no problems found. Here are some of the places where they come from:

    MAILER-DAEMON@nm22.access.bullet.mail.sp2.yahoo.com
    MAILER-DAEMON@yahoo.com
    postmaster@hotmail.com

I had about 50 of them this morning when I fired it up. Any ideas on what is going on?

It appears your email has been hijacked. I would also download Malwarebytes Antimalware and run it in safe mode.

A Google search shows many sites with thought on email hijacking repair.

Or your email address has been harvested by a spammer. That could mean that someone you know has had their address book compromised. It could mean you inadvertantly responded to a spammer.

Once your email address is in the hands of a "bad guy", it is very easy to have it used as the source for an email even though it it not.

Once you have verified that your system is OK as per Ted's post #2 short of changing your email address, there is not really much you can do about it.

Yes it does appear that my address is in the hands of a bad guy. The emails were addressed to people that were not in my address book. They did not appear in my Sent folder either. The scan by Malwarebytes Antimalware did not show up any bad stuff. Anyway, I have changed the password on the account and will see what happens next.
    Thanks for the replies.

Got to agree with posts #2 & #3.

I moderate a group of some 3000 members and see this happen unfortunately to regular. Sometimes simply changing your online email password can prevent this but it depends on how your email address was compromised in the first place.

LOL, we must have been typing at the same time but my TV keeps distracting me! Hopefully your change of password works.

I haven't had any of the undeliverable messages since I changed the password about a week ago. Coincidence? Possibly. We shall see.
