    eBay difficulties on preferred browsers

    Hi,

Having recently reloaded my OS (XP), I’m having some problems accessing one or two of the usual eBay (UK) features, and can’t seem to resolve the issues.

Using my preferred browser Opera, viewing and everything else works fine, but I cannot set a minimum or maximum search price via the standard page. I can enter the price limits, but the arrow on the RH side is grayed out and the search does not operate. It is possible to set the limits via Advanced search, but that is slightly less convenient.

Using a Firefox variant (Pale Moon, which operates pretty well as Firefox does) I have the search function which does not operate in Opera, but instead I cannot see the enlarged pictures on an individual page, or the Enlarged view from the Search page. (Supersize view, using the eBayISAPI.dll.) Although I have several security add-ons installed, I have disabled each in turn without effect. (Popups, NoScript, Adblock Plus, Adblock Plus Pop-up Addon, Flashblock). It rather seems to me it might be Flash-related, but there is no apparent way round the problem. Whilst there are ways of minimising it, I have some concern that there is a significant setting that is wrong.

Can anyone suggest any further Firefox settings to be explored, please.

BTW, IE8 acts correctly in both circumstances, but it is generally such a pain to use that it never does get used, except where absolutely necessary.

    Thanks,

    Garth

If you can access it without issues in IE8 without any add ons it does suggest it must be Opera or Add On related.

Adblock is well known for causing issues so why not remove all addins and try with a basic fresh install of opera. You can add one add in at a time to find which is causing the problem.

    Or just use IE8 ...

I had a thriving small business on eBay for several years that I shut down at the end of 2009. I used IE exclusively and had no problems at all. I was selling 700 to 800 items per year, and other than the increasing fees, had no problems listing or editing, etc. IE was very easy to use with eBay.

    Thanks for the responses.

I mentioned that the site worked with IE8 simply to eliminate some possibilities. I know the problems are browser-related settings, and I want to resolve them. There is no way I'm going to use IE regularly, Opera is so much easier for general browsing. I could try a clean install, but it is fairly customised at present, so would be a pain to replace.

    Thanks anyway.

Are you able to disable the add-ons one at a time in Opera just to find what if any may be causing the problems. If find which add-on is the culprit can decide if want to keep it or not.
Have you tried Google Chrome it might suit you.

Or you could use IE8 just for eBay only then no need to change Opera setup.

All typing errors are my own work and subject to patents pending. Except errors by the spell checker. And that has its own patients.

I don't have any add-ons (i.e. extensions) installed, nor any widgets, so the answer is somewhere (else) under the bonnet! Advanced search works OK, as I originally said, so firing up IE8 for the purpose would be more than it's worth, thanks.

I've tried Chrome and several other browsers, but always come back to Opera. I like (for example) its ability to populate address lines etc in web documents with just one button - saves a deal of time compared with Firefox, for example.

Whenever I run into a site that does not work well with FF, I use the IE Tab feature to switch a tab to IE, and, viola, the site works perfectly. Even Windows Update can't tell the difference. You might try that addon and see if it resolves your issue. :^)

That's a suggestion which works with Pale Moon as well as FF, thanks.
