Question Word and Excel Files won't open in Outlook 2010

Word and Excel files won't open in Outlook 2010 but if I drag them to desktop, then they can be opened - all versions of word and excel, not just 2010.
Do I need to set some option differently or download some add-on?

Exclamation Don't keep several versions of MS office or sub-programs on the same PC !

It is my experience that you should avoid several versions running together on the same machine.
It is a fact that whenever a version '2010' is installed (especially if the whole Office suite 2010) you will have nasty problems, if you didn't FIRST remove every single bit of previous programs.

Remove them not in the classical Windows way (Add/Remove programs) bu use Revo Uninstaller.
Use the the bottom option in main menu : additionally, this will remove all traces from Register and from Folders, after the classical removal has been done.

You must remember that Microsoft installers DO NOT remove left-overs of previous version installations !
This is why so many Microsoft users are annoyed with 'bugs' in new fresh installations. Old references are still there and will keep you busy for days, trying to run any program in a normal way !

This is often a problem with upgrades to various programs. I appreciate the info on Revo Uninstaller and have added that to my list of useful programs. Since this was the much longer solution, I tried the Microsoft link suggested by BruceR and that solve the problem. Thanks for helping in the solution to a problem I could not figure out on my own.
