Windows Live Mail - compress folders

In Outlook Express (XP) I regularly compressed the folders to save space - there seems to be no similar facility in Win 7 Live Mail. Is the file structure such that this now takes place automatically, or is not necessary - i cannot find a way to do it.

WLM automatically volunteers to compress folders periodically. No need to do anything on your part. Every couple of weeks or once per month, don't really know exact schedule.

Windows Live Mail 2011 has a setting at Options, Mail, Advanced, Maintenance for "Compact the database at shutdown every XXX runs" (default 100).

If you want to do this now you can change that to 1 and then back again after restarting the program. (Previous versions had a similar setting option.)

Many thanks - the command is very deeply buried. I have changed from 100 to 50.
