    File/Folder PC Source

    Hello,
Is there a way to determine where a file or folder comes from? I have a stand alone computer with Windows ME on it. I'd like to know if someone makes a copy of a file or folder on my stand alone and be able to say that this copy came from my stand alone.

    Is this possible?

    Thanks in advance.

There is no way in Windows ME to do this. NTFS, the file system on all Windows NT based operating systems, will provide an audit trail but you have to turn this on.

The best suggestion, aside from a 3rd part program that tracks these things, is to check the date and time stamp on a file, but even this is not a failsafe method.

Keep in mind that Windows 95, 98 and ME are inherently insecure and are not designed to provide these functions.
