    WinTidy 2

    Title: WinTidy 2
    Platform: Windows 95/98/ME/NT4/2K,XP
    Cost: Freeware
Description: This is a new version by Neil Rubenking (of PC Magazine) for Win Tidy 95. The old version worked on Win9x. You know how your desktop icons get messed up when you change resolution, boot in safe mode, or when gremlins just come & rearrange your desktop. Well, this utility will save settings (you can have numerous settings for different resolutions & different users) so that one click restores your settings. I used Win Tidy 95 for years & it's a wonderful time saver.

I think you have to register to download, but it's free.

WinTidy 2 : very useful. Along with HardCopy, it's good enough to be available on my web site. Why is it that the most useful, uncluttered apps just happen to be freeware ?

Cuz if you make money on it, BG will steal it and put it in Windows. I believe XPP has something similar to Tidy, just haven't fingered it out yet.

    Get <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp>" PowerToys"</A>.

    Virtual Desktop Manager
What it is: Manage up to 4 desktops from the Windows Shell Taskbar.
How to use:Right click on the taskbar, click toolbars, then click "Desktop Manager." If the taskbar is locked and you want to resize the manager, you will have to unlock it.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Looks like Moniq isn't entirely correct... This one sounds exactly like the freeware EffectiveDesktop from Ministars, though it allowed you to manage up to 9 different virtual desktops at once, plus some other extras too.

Perhaps the Microsoft concept is "Is it useful? Can we bloat it up?" <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>
