Editing a protected worksheet XL2000 (Excel 2000)

I need to be able to protect titles and formulas in a worksheet, but alow other users to add rows as needed. It seems like the ability to add rows disappears when you protect a worksheet in Excel 2000. I see in XP there is a provision to allow users to edit ranges. I thought I used to be able to protect just certain cells in previous versions of office but now it seems more difficult.

Re: Editing a protected worksheet XL2000 (Excel 2000)

Hi Mike,

The only way I can think of is using the worksheet change event to prevent users from changing cells that are locked:

Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range)
If Target.Locked Then
Application.EnableEvents = False
Application.Undo
MsgBox "Changes not allowed , cell is locked"
Application.EnableEvents = True
End If
End Sub

But that does not prevent users from pasting date on top of your cells, protected or not.

I guess having a macro to - unpprotect, insert and reprotect is the way to go.
