    video card problem?

When I boot our one of our home computers, each of the areas that has text looks like large graph paper lines. Used to be that I could reboot cold and it would work; now it won't at all. Sometimes now parts of icons with the text will appear, but when I mouse over them it turns to the lines again.
Bad video card? I do know that it's an S3 Trio card, memory 2mb, software version 4.0.

I did go into SafeMode, but you can't actually change anything from there, but the display did work.
When I went back to normal boot mode, the computer started making a lot of long grinding noises (sounded like an old Compaq from 20 years ago). The video did display, but it would only display at 16 colors and wouldn't allow me to change it without rebooting. Upon reboot, it did the same thing. Then after another reboot, it gave me the strange font lines again, so I just shut it down.

    Any help with this problem?

    Re: video card problem?

    Hi
Certainly sounds like a video card problem. Can you borrow another one and try it, preferably with a minimum of 32Mb on-board RAM?

    Re: video card problem?

I don't, but for PCI, they are cheap. The only problem is that finding one is the real problem since most places don't carry PCI V-cards anymore w/ any RAM.

I'll look around and report back after I try that.

    Thanks
